Bring your favourite films to life with Shopomo's simple guide on how to use your PlayStation VR Headset to watch 3D Blu-ray movies
Since its release in October 2016, the PlayStation VR has blown gamers away with an impressive array of titles. The likes of Resident Evil 7, Batman: Arkham VR, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood and Eagle Flight have all shown the PlayStation VR’s gaming capabilities.
However, the PlayStation VR, is more than just a top gaming peripheral. What some of you may not know is that there’s a feature that allows users to watch DVD or Blu-ray movies using the headset.
Cinematic mode allows you to play non-VR games, watch films, browse the internet and use applications while wearing the headset. Excitingly this will soon include support for 3D Blu-rays with the next PS4 firmware update (currently in beta testing).
Sony’s console can already play 3D Blu-rays on a compatible TV, but it has now announced a software update that will let you watch them in stereoscopic 3D on your PSVR headset. This effectively turns the PlayStation VR into your personal 3D TV and without the need for expensive battery-powered glasses for viewing content.
Unfortunately you won’t be able to share the movie or TV show you’re watching with anyone else.
How do you set-up cinematic mode?
All you have to do is just turn your PS4 on, plug in your headset and you’ll immediately be able to view the PS4 menu through the visor in cinematic mode.
There are 3 screen sizes to view non-VR games or movies:
– Small (117-inch)
– Medium (163-inch)
– Large (226-inch)
To change the size of the screen, go to Settings > Devices > PlayStation VR > Cinematic Mode.
As the screen size gets larger, the image quality will deteriorate. At 226″, you’re not going to get Blu-Ray quality images.
You’re now free to enjoy a multitude of non-VR games and Blu-ray movies using your PlayStation VR headset!
