The greatest music festivals in the world

Summer’s finally here, which means that festival season is just around the corner. Whether you’re a regular or a newbie, you can be sure to look forward to good music, sun, mud, shameless early morning drinking and no showering.

We’ve compiled a list of the best festivals taking place this summer around the world that bring in the crowds year after year.

Rock am Ring

When: June 5th-7th

Where: Nürburg, Germany

Line-up: Foo Fighters, In Flames, Marilyn Manson, Papa Roach, Motörhead, Rise Against the Machine, Slipknot, The Prodigy

Rock am Ring combines with Rock im Park festival to form one of the biggest music festivals in the world.

This is definitely one for all the metalheads out there, with 2015’s line-up is looking to be one of the best yet.

Headbangers assemble!

When: June 24th-28th

Where: Somerset, England

Line-up: Foo Fighters, Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Florence and the Machine, Azealia Banks, The Vaccines, Deadmau5

The most iconic and longest running music festival in the world, with the festivities take place on a massive 1200 acres of beautiful countryside.  There’s so much going on it almost feels like there’s more than one festival taking place on that weekend.

While the main attractions will take place at the Pyramid Stage, there’s also comedy shows, art fairs, circus and cabaret acts and so much more going on. It’s recommended you wonder around to ensure you’re not missing out on anything good!

You’ll find a wide variety of people at Glastonbury, from families right up to festival veterans. Glastonbury is what you make it, all you need is a smile and a chilled out attitude.

Open’er Festival

When: July 1st-4th

Where: Gdynia, Poland

Line-up: The Libertines, Mumford and Sons, Drake, St Vincent, Tom Odell, ASAP Rocky, Alabama Shakes, Faithless

As festivals gain in popularity, so do the costs of attending. The likes of Coachella and Glastonbury can cost up to £250 for admission alone, which can put a serious dent in your wallet for a few days of revelry.

Open’er is a festival that brings together household names where you can eat like a king and drink like a fish without the need to spend loads.

Set phasers to stunned as pints are as cheap as a couple of quid. You’re sure to have a cracking time at Open’er.

When: July 16th-19th

Where: Benicassim, Spain

Line-up: Blur, The Prodigy, Portishead, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Crystal Fighters, Public Enemy, Bastille, Clean Bandit

Taking place on the east coast of Spain between Barcelona and Valencia, Benicassim has everything you want in a festival: good music, sun, plentiful beaches and sangria on tap.

Be sure to pack plenty of suntan lotion as you’ll need it partying 4 days under the sun. The steamed lobster look is not a good one.

When: August 10th-17th

Where: Budapest, Hungary

Line-up: Kasabian, Robbie Williams, Ellie Goulding, Avicii, Alt-J, Paloma Faith, Interpol, The Ting Tings, Limp Bizkit

Sziget is thought of as one of the best European music festivals and one all festival veterans agree you need to check out.

Taking place on the ‘Island of Freedom’, the atmosphere is relaxed, vibrant and multi-cultural. Good music, beaches and cheap drinks make this a highlight of the festival calendar.

If you find yourself there this summer, be sure to ride the Sziget wheel for a bird’s eye view of the whole city!
