So what exactly is the Ketogenic Diet?
The Ketogenic diet is a low-carb, high-fat diet which involves drastically reducing your carb intake and replacing it with fat. The aim of this diet is to make your body reliant on fat for energy rather than carbs. This is referred to as a state of ketosis hence the name of the diet.
With ketosis, your body is using fat as its primary source of fuel, so it will naturally start to burn fat for energy rather than carbs leading to weight loss.
The Keto diet plays into the belief that fat is good. This is inline with the increase of people following a diet high in healthy fats.
As you’d expect, the keto diet is very rich in healthy fats such as fish, meat, eggs, avocados, oils, nuts and many other of the usual suspects. The idea is that you eat a plentiful amount of foods high in healthy fats and keep your carb and sugar intake to a minimum.
