Have a guilt free Pancake Day this year with our suggestions for healthy pancake toppings that don't compromise on taste
We love pancakes as they are probably the most versatile dish ever. Whether you’re Team Sweet or Team Savoury, there are a ridiculous number of toppings you can have with those golden circles of deliciousness.
Pancake Day will be upon us on the 28th February and it promises to be a day where up and down the country people will be gorging themselves on stack after stack of pancakes.
However, when it comes to choosing your toppings you do need to be a bit careful. While we love adding liberal amounts of Nutella, syrup or jam to a pancake fresh from the pan, such toppings can be incredibly high in sugar.
Shopomo has found some healthy pancake toppings that are low in sugar so you can have a guilt-free Pancake Day:
Jim Jams Milk Chocolate Spread
Jim Jams is an award winning chocolate spread that contains 83% less sugar than other leading brands.
It uses a sweetener called Maltitol that contains nearly half the calories of sugar and is kinder on teeth, making it ideal for children. Jim Jam’s also contains half the saturated fat of Nutella which makes it a brilliant substitute.
If you fancy trying your hand at making your own chocolate spread, we also have a brilliant recipe for one that’s healthy and vegan-friendly.
The Protein Works Maple Syrup
Maple syrup is simply a must on pancakes. If you’re on a strict, calorie controlled diet then you’ll be grateful for this naturally flavoured syrup from The Protein Works.
Zero calories, zero carbohyfrates, zero fats and zero sugars. This maple syrup from The Porotein Works is a must have for anyone on a diet who’s craving something sweet.
If you’re trying to build muscle, you can pair up this syrup with Protein Works’ Pancake Mix.
This sweetener from Truvia comes from the extract of the stevia leaf which is then blended with erythritol to give it a sugar-like texture and calorie-free sweetness.
Truvia is perfect for those who want a sugar replacement for a classic lemon and sugar pancake.
Whole Earth Peanut Butter
This smooth peanut butter contains no added sugar and is also a great source of fibre and protein.
If you’re looking for a good combo with peanut butter, you can’t go wrong with chocolate or banana. Or even all three together!
Alpro Hazelnut Chocolate Ice Cream
If you love ice cream with your pancakes, then you must try Alpro’s Hazelnut Chocolate ice cream.
Made with 30% less sugars & saturated fats, this ice cream is deliciously creamy, tasty and indulgent.
If you’re lactose intolerant then you’re in luck as it’s totally free from dairy.
For all you fans of savoury pancakes, don’t worry we haven’t forgotten you!
