Ultra HD console gaming is upon us. Read our list of current games we'd love to play in 4K on the new PS4 Pro.
During this year’s E3, Sony announced what was initially known as the PS4 Neo – which later became the Pro – an upgrade to the current PS4 model that’s set to be unveiled at an event in New York on September 7th. It’ll boast visual and performance upgrades to support 4K gaming.
There’ll be 4K native output of select games and the ability to upscale to 4K of others, as well as 4K video support. It’s yet to be confirmed whether Ultra HD (UHD) Blu-rays will be supported.
Console gamers will finally get a chance to experience the stunning 4K 3,840 x 2,160p resolutions that only the ‘PC Master Race’ have been able to enjoy so far. This has prompted us to put together a list of games we wish to play in 4K on the new PS4 Neo.
Once you’ve experienced the breathtaking visuals and immersion only Ultra HD gaming can offer, there’s no going back.
1. Uncharted 4
The excitement and anticipation in the months leading up to the release of Uncharted 4 were met by Naughty Dog, who managed to create an unforgettable experience and deliver some remarkable visuals.
Built on the most recent iteration of Naughty Dog’s in-house engine technology, Uncharted 4 delivers near photorealistic visuals, excellent character modelling and lush environments to explore.
It already looks unbelievable, but can you imagine how it’d look upscaled to 4K?
2. Star Wars: Battlefront
While Star Wars: Battlefront divided opinion, there’s one thing you can’t deny: it’s a fine looking game.
A ‘real life’ mod was released for the PC from YouTuber Jack ‘jackfrags’ Mason that has the game running at 60 frames per second in 4K resolution.
Those upgraded visuals have us wanting to boot up Battlefront on the PS4 Neo for a few more rounds of Walker Assault. The ice planet of Hoth and the Forest Moon of Endor have never looked better.
3. The Witcher 3
The Witcher 3 was the best game of 2015 and in our opinion one of the best RPGs ever. It looked amazing no matter what platform you played it on.
The misty hills, the rugged terrain of Skellige and the waters of Novigrad sparkle when played in 4K on the PC.
You owe it to yourself to play The Witcher 3 in 4K. It really is a thing of beauty.
4. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
Hideo Kojima’s last Metal Gear game deserves to be played in 4K. You’ll marvel at the look of fresh blood glistening on Snake’s face and experience a 4K sandstorm.
Sneaking up on unsuspecting enemy soldiers has never looked so good or been as satisfying.
5. Mortal Kombat X
Mortal Kombat is the best looking brawler out now. On the PC, Mortal Kombat X offers a wide range of tweakable graphics. From anti-aliasing, anisotropic filtering, shadow quality and texture quality to bloom, depth of field, motion blur, ambient occlusion and particle density.
We hope we’ll get a similar experience on the PS4 Pro that’ll have us wincing at every bone-breaking move and all the gory fatalities.
