The tech gurus over at Withings think that they’ve come up with a gadget that’ll help you feel secure in your house: The Home.

Showcased as ‘the first HD camera with air quality sensors’, Home runs alongside a mobile app to offer users facts and figures on their home environment, as well as real-time video recording and time lapse functionality.

When we first took the Home out of its box we were surprised by how dainty the gadget actually is. The size of the security accessory means the Home will tuck neatly onto a book shelf whilst remaining fairly well hidden at the same time.

Withings-Home

The Home’s cylindrial body has a solid weight to it and arrives in two pieces, consisting of the camera itself and a magnetic platform the product sits on. When the camera isn’t in use the Home’s wooden-textured shell can be rotated to cover the lens.

This is a fancy gadget with some great ideas, perfectly suited to the jobs it promises to manage for you.

When it comes to appearance, we like the Home a great deal. This gadget has a modern look to it and manages to look elegant at home or in the office. The Withings Home offers a host of features in a mini, portable package, boasting 10 on-board sensors designed to help users keep track of their house in a number of ways.

Home comes equipped with a 5-megapixel camera with a 130-degree wide angle lens, which can be viewed through the iOS app for live viewing. Taking a look at the camera via the iOS application, we were impressed by the overall quality of the Home’s camera. An Android app is also free to download.

Users can look back over what’s happened over the last 48 hours with the Home’s timeline feature, as the camera will only log moments when it has identified an increase in noise or motion.

There’s alternative security systems out there, but few look as good as the Home. This is a fancy gadget with some great ideas, perfectly suited to the jobs it promises to manage for you.
